We took a trip back to our old house today. I was stealing one of the air conditioning units we bought for the windows when we lived there. We have central air conditioning, but our room on the top floor seems to always be hot! So I brought this in to help cool me down. Plus, we were interested in seeing some of the changes that have taken place. Every wall has been painted. There is new carpet and even a laminate floor in the kitchen and back porch area. Everything looked really nice, except for the bathroom. There is only one in the whole house, and it is totally a 50’s style bathroom. There is a really pretty arch over the bathtub—sadly 3/4ths of the wall (every wall) is covered in a pink tile…YUCK!
My husband’s grandparents lived in the house before we did and they didn’t mind the bathroom at all. It was charming to them. They should have looked into walkin tubs, maybe they would have been able to stay in the home a little longer. They were unable to get themselves in and out of the tub without a tub chair, and that is just miserable. Walkin tubs these days are so common and easy to use. When I lived in Japan they had “Ofuro’s” which look about the same as a walkin tub, but there is nowhere to sit. They aren’t nearly as convenient to use as the newer models.
There should be a “For Sale” sign going up on our old house any day, and as happy as we are to be in the house we are in…I think it will kind of be like losing an old friend. A VERY old friend!
