A Family Favorite–Anyone Can Make!!
By admin | May 4, 2008

In the survey, I had a few people asking for cake’s that anyone could make whether or not they were decorated. So I thought I would share a recipe that my 10 year old makes. It’s a great confidence builder for kids–because they can do it from beginning to end, all by themselves. Mind you—I did put it in and take it out of the oven–but other than that, it’s all Jake.
Even better than him making it himself, it tastes AMAZING!! Definitely one of my favorite!
Dump Cake
1 can of Cherry Pie Filling
1 can of Crushed Pineapple
1 Yellow Cake Mix
1 bag of Coconut
1 stick of Melted Butter
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In an UNPREPARED 13×9 inch baking pan, dump the cherry pie filling and the undrained crushed pineapple. Spread around to mix the fruit. Sprinkle cake mix evenly over the fruit, and coconut over the cake mix. Drizzle melted butter evenly over the top.
Bake 40-50 minutes until the coconut looks toasty. Let cool for 15 minutes. Can be served topped with ice cream or whipping cream–or nothing at all!
The first photo is of the top–and the second photo shows it from the side so you can see some of the layers.

Robin, This is Pam I am a friend of Jeri and Peggy and I know your mom. I am going to make the dump cake tomorrow for a RS thing and I went to the store to get what I needed. What size bag of coconut do I need? There were 2 sizes. Also what size of pineapple can? Help I am making it tomorrow morning. Thanks. I love your blogs. My granddaughter and I loved your darling Easter basket cake. Pam

Hi Pam—Of course I know who you are!! For the dump cake–we just use the little can of crushed pineapple. As for the coconut–it’s also the small bag, and we use just enough to coat the top. It can get a little thick! I hope it works out as yummy for you as it always does for us!! Let me know!
